To achieve effortless starting, the MS 362 C-M VW has a decompression valve. It is advisable to press the valve before starting so that the compression pressure reduces and alleviates the need to pull the starter rope. There is a manual decompression valve for this semi-automatic system, which you must press before decompression begins, but it automatic closes once the process is complete.
The combi lever only requires one start position because M-Tronic has an automatic cold and warm start recognition. It is determined by demand how much fuel to supply. You no longer need to worry about the chainsaw’s status and can begin cutting right away – even from a cold start. In a few seconds, the saw receives optimal acceleration.
During all modes of operation, the fully electronic engine management system adjusts ignition timing and fuel metering. Furthermore, it takes external factors such as temperature, altitude and fuel quality into account. It provides a consistent speed at all times, along with excellent acceleration.
M-Tronic eliminates the need for manual carburettor adjustment. In addition, the engine starts in fewer pulls and without having to change positions, so it can accelerate quickly, even if it’s cold. As well, M-Tronic remembers the settings from the last time the tool was running. As a result, every time you restart the engine, you will receive optimal performance because external conditions are the same.
A new generation of combustion technology
Optimal combustion occurs due to four overflow channels, which allow the fuel-air mix to swirl before ignition. Consequently, fuel consumption is lower, and torque is high across a wide range of rpm.
The HD2 filter is made from polyethene filter material with 70% more fine pores than fleece and polyamide filters to trap even very fine dust. Further, it is a water- and oil-repellent material, making it easy to maintain. Filter cartridges covered in PET with quick-release locks can be assembled or disassembled in a matter of seconds, without tools.
Stihl-branded air filters have a noticeably longer filter life by incorporating pre-separation into their long-life air filtration systems. A more prominent, heavier particles eject from the MS 362 C-M VW engine using a swirling motion to pull in air. The pre-separator duct then routes the air before it reaches the air filter.
As the air filter clogs, it prevents the fuel-air mixture from becoming more affluent in the carburettor. Depending on the air passing through the air filter, the right amount of fuel gets delivered to the carburettor. It maintains the fuel/air ratio of the combustion mixture, keeping engine power constant as well. There is usually no need to clean the filter until the power drops significantly.

Power tools with intense vibrations at the handles have been shown to damage blood vessels in the hands and arms over time. To reduce vibrations at the handles, Stihl has developed a system that dampens the engine oscillations of the MS 362 C-M VW.
With a variable-displacement oil pump, oil delivery is on-demand. By moving to the E position, oil production can reduce by up to 50%. A user can add more oil, if necessary when using very long cutting attachments or very dry wood.
Through Ematic chain lubrication, saw chain links and guide bar rails stay lubricated precisely. Consequently, this system offers maximum lubrication and longer chain life, and less oil consumption than conventional saw chain lubrication methods. Therefore, the Ematic system can reduce bar oil consumption by 50%.
As the engine compression occurs during start-up, Stihl ElastoStart reduces the shock to the operator. An inertia spring or rubber element in the starter handle helps take compression shock away from the user’s joints and muscles.
Filler caps are tool-free, and special catches on the fuel and oil tanks facilitate easy opening and closing without tools.
